Macaroni & cheese is simply one of the tastiest and most satisfying dishes known to man. Mr. Mac's in Portsmouth, New Hampshire takes this classic dish up about ten notches with different flavors of the comfort food classic.
The mac & cheese is served in skillets - small, medium or large. A small is plenty for one person. The real challenge is settling on a flavor combination. There's cheeseburger mac, chicken bacon ranch, pulled pork, Philly cheese steak, bacon cheddar, carbonara, chicken parm, Lobstah, American chop suey, chicken scampi, shrimp scampi, tuna max.... the ooey, gooey list goes on and on, not to mention Mr. Mac also has daily specials.
Eat Up New England ordered the Taco Mac, which is mac & cheese with beef, taco seasoning, American & Cabot cheeses and topped with sour cream. Oh, did I mention it also has tortilla chips baked in on top of it to make it extra crispy? This mac & cheese is as mouth-watering as it sounds and I've been craving it ever since.
Eat Up New England can't wait to return to Mr. Mac's to try another flavor of macaroni & cheese goodness. Mr. Mac's also has other locations in Manchester, NH and Tyngsboro, MA. www.mr-macs.com

Restaurant Week in Portsmouth, New Hampshire ended just yesterday, but Eat Up New England made it in time! Our first stop was Misto in neighboring Kittery, Maine. This cozy, vegetarian friendly spot offered three-course lunches for only $16.95. Course one: asparagus leek soup, bruschetta or insalata misto. I enjoyed their crunchy bruchetta topped with tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil pesto. Course two: Thai style stir fry (a special dish just for restaurant week), blacked fish tacos, steak tacos, California chicken wrap or Atlantic sole. I devoured their hearty chicken wrap, which was filled with cheddar-jack, romaine, avocado, tomato, bacon and a smoky chipotle. It came with homemade sweet potato fries. Course three: House-made hazelnut fudge brownie a la mode or lemon & raspberry sorbetto. My wife and sampled both desserts. The brownie and vanilla ice cream was delightful and for me, the smoothness and flavor of the raspberry sorbetto really stood out. www.mistocafebistro.com

Easter is just one week away, but don't worry, Yummie's of Kittery, Maine has Easter candy piled high to the ceiling. They have bags of bulk Easter candy like these - everything from jelly beans to chocolate eggs. They have every flavor of Peeps that's on the market, even sugar free. Yummie's also makes their own chocolate Easter baskets stuffed with even more candy.

Stony Joe Coffee Stout. One sip of this beer at Bison County in Waltham, Massachusetts and I was ALL IN. I love coffee stouts and thought I'd give this one a try. It was a BLONDE stout and the coffee flavor was spot on - as strong as I've ever had. It was the perfect brew to sip on during this southern feast. Every meal at Bison County starts off with a big slice of corn bread and butter. We ordered some hush puppies with honey dipping sauce and fried pickles with ranch to kick off our meal. Other apps include chili cheese fries, grilled fire shrimp, catfish nuggets and a couple of chili's. Eat Up New England had a tough time settling on dinner because of Bison County's extensive menu. There are quesadillas, salads, wings, burgers and ribs. Wanting to sample their food, I ordered their 1/2 chicken and 1/2 pulled pork plate. It comes with two sides, so I got the jalapeno rice and sauteed vegetables. So tasty. I haven't been so full in a long time.
